Doree Leslie (Gordon): vintage 9×11 photo.
Doree Leslie started her vaudeville career at the age of 10 where she was billed as a “child dancing sensation”. As a teenager, Doree attended the Professional Children’s School in New York, where her classmates included Milton Berle. Doree went on to perform in George White’s show “Scandals” and at least one Ziegfeld’s show in the 1920s. These performances launched her to a career as a leading lady of Broadway, and a contract with Metro Goldwyn Mayer Productions. However, Doree left her Broadway and film career in the early 1930’s to marry Lee Gordon. She never returned to her entertainment career, however that does not mean she slowed down. Doree raised a family, was active in local politics and community work and even worked for the department of Labor during WWII. Doree Leslie Gordon died, at the age of 85, 2 June 1997.
